CGH-SDU (Homage to the Minimal Information)

In this video the landscape is reduced to its minimum informative elements – dominant colors and sounds -, converting movement in a flow of textures and volumes modulated by ligth. Recorded with a Flip video camera during landings and take offs, between the urban airports of São Paulo (Congonhas, CGH) and Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont, SDU), in one day of July. Participo do 2o Fórum Latino-Americano de Fotografia que acontece no Itaú Cultural (SP) a partir do dia 20. O evento, que se chama Fora do Eixo, Fora de Casa, é coordenado por Iatã Cannabrava e abrange mesas de debate, workshops e leituras de portfólio, entre outras atividades, além da exposição Histórias de Mapas, Piratas e Tesouros, com curadoria de Edu Brandão e do coletivo Cia de Foto.

Na exposição, apresento três projetos inéditos:

O vídeo CGH – SDU (Homenagem à Mínima Informação), que está no andar dos Mapas.

O livro Stills on the Move (que teve produção gráfica da Carla de Bona e encadernação do Pablo Peinado).

CGH – SDU (Homenagem à Mínima Informação)

Nesse video, a paisagem é reduzida ao seus elementos informativos mínimos – as cores dominantes e o som–, convertendo o movimento num fluxo de texturas e volumes modulados pela luz. Gravado com uma câmera Flip de vídeo, durante decolagens e aterrissagens entre os aeroportos urbanos de São Paulo (Congonhas, CGH) e Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont, SDU), em um dia de julho. Falado em português e inglês.

Livro : Stills on the Move

O livro, em formato circular, é uma viagem por várias cidades latinas, sem ponto de partida e de chegada, que compõem uma geografia desterritorializada e fluída, um retrato sem fronteiras da urbanidade latin-americana. As imagens foram capturadas em Lima, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Brasília, Buenos Aires, Mérida, México D.F e Buenos Aires. Aparecem, propositalmente, sem identificação, construindo um panorama de vetores e cores.

Um conjunto de cinco imagens do Minhocão, da série Geometrias Variáveis, 120 x 90 cm, papel algodão, impressão jato de tinta, está exposto junto com o livro Stills on the Move e aparecem como páginas em grande escala.

O ensaio crítico sobre piarataria (Piratas: Os Dissidentes da Nova Ordem), completa minha participação na exposição.

No fórum, participo da mesa sobre Novos Formatos, que acontece dia 23, das 20 às 22, e discuto imagens emergentes Além-tela e Além-parede.

Just What Is It that Makes Today’s Delusions So Different, So Appealing?

Delusion, in the context of this exhibition, refers to an image or a deceitful representation of reality suggested by the imagination or a mistaken reading of the information provided by the senses. The show, which bears a title that parodies Richard Hamilton’s famous collage, addresses the notions and systems that underpin the construction of realities in today’s world, as well as exploring the possible idiosyncrasies of the digital age.

In this sense, the art of deception—which embraces both deceiving and allowing oneself, intentionally or unintentionally, to be deceived—appears as the idea that articulates the exhibition proposal. Despite being an abstract concept designed to organise sensitive experience, deception is to be found practically everywhere, appearing even as a biological (and in our case a cultural) imperative.

Several contemporary artists, particularly in the field of media art, have benefited from this fact. Simulation, for instance, with its strategy of producing realities, stands out as one of the most widespread and skilful resources in contemporary art. Artificially generated worlds are absolved of the need to follow the true models of universe and nature, creating their own notions of reality and authenticity.

The works that invoke delusion often resort to metaphorical and confabulatory practices (understanding the world in the Nietzschean sense of fable), surrounding viewers with the narrative thread and thereby making them an active part of the experience of the piece. In our case, realistic staging, fictitious documentation, the simulation of truths, the ambiguous quality of narratives are but some of the procedures adopted by artists in the works presented in this show.

Transdisciplinarity and multiplicity of techniques and media are other features defining the ensemble of works on display, following the guidelines of Factoría, while the selection, which includes Spanish and Latin American artists, endorses its proposal of establishing an effective and not just rhetorical relationship between artistic-cultural agents on either side of the Atlantic.

Depois da surpresa de ter sido selecionada para o Prêmio Porto Seguro de Fotografia, uma mais surpreendente: a indicação para a leitura de portfólfio no SP Photo Fest.

O processo de seleção do SPF merece comentários. Foi todo feito no Flickr, usando somente os features e recursos do prórpio Flickr. Genial.

Hoje é dia da leitura de portfólio em si. Levo alguns este álbum e alguns vídeos.

Tele_bits é um ensaio audiovisual interativo sobre a relação das telecomunicações com o cotidiano.

É mediado pela ação do público que o retroalimenta pela Internet, com imagens e textos, e expande as informações manipulando os QR-Codes que rodeiam a projeção no recinto expositivo.

Um projeto de Giselle Beiguelman e Rafael Marchetti comissionado pela Fundação Telefônica para a exposição Tão Longe, Tão Perto.
