CGH-SDU

In this video, CGH-SDU, 2010, the landscape is reduced to its minimum informative elements – dominant colors and sound -, converting movement into a flow of textures and volumes modulated by light. Recorded with a Flip video camera during landings and takeoffs, between the airports of São Paulo (Congonhas, CGH) and Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont, SDU), in one day in July. Since 2019 CGH-SDU is part of the collection of Pinacoteca de S. Paulo.

CGH-SDU: Homage to Minimal Information

The video CGH-SDU (2010) was made especially for the exhibition Fora de Eixo, Entre Piratas at Itaú Cultural, curated by Eduardo Brandão, in 2010. It was recorded on a single day in July, during takeoffs and landings between the urban airports of São Paulo [Congonhas, CGH] and Rio de Janeiro [Santos Dumont, SDU], at the moments when flight attendants instruct passengers to switch off their cameras.

Captured with a Flip Camera, the footage was edited by lowering the video resolution and successively exporting it at increasingly higher resolutions. In this video, dedicated to what the artist calls the most beautiful flight in the world, the landscape is reduced to its minimal informational elements—dominant colors and sound—converting movement into a flow of textures and volumes modulated by light. It is “narrated” by the crew members, whose voices mark the rhythm of the various stages of the flights.

Since 2019, CGH-SDU has been part of the collection of the Pinacoteca de S. Paulo.
