Off the Axis, Away from Home, Among Pirates

I am taking part in the 2nd Latin American Photography Forum, which begins at Itaú Cultural (São Paulo) on the 20th. The event, titled Fora do Eixo, Fora de Casa, is coordinated by Iatã Cannabrava and includes panel discussions, workshops, portfolio reviews, and other activities, as well as the exhibition Histórias de Mapas, Piratas e Tesouros, curated by Edu Brandão and the Cia de Foto collective.

In the exhibition, I present three new projects:

The video CGH – SDU (Homenagem à Mínima Informação), on the Maps floor.

The book Stills on the Move (with graphic production by Carla de Bona and binding by Pablo Peinado).

Minhocão (five photographs from the Geometrias Variáveis series, 120 × 90 cm)
The photographs and book are on the Treasures floor.

CGH – SDU (Homenagem à Mínima Informação)

In this video, the landscape is reduced to its minimal informational elements—dominant colors and sound—converting movement into a flow of textures and volumes modulated by light. Filmed with a Flip video camera during takeoffs and landings between the urban airports of São Paulo (Congonhas, CGH) and Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont, SDU), on a day in July. Spoken in Portuguese and English.

Book: Stills on the Move

The book, in a circular format, is a journey through various Latin American cities with no point of departure or arrival, composing a deterritorialized, fluid geography: a borderless portrait of Latin American urbanity. The images were captured in Lima, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife, Brasília, Buenos Aires, Mérida, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires. They are deliberately left unidentified, constructing a panorama of vectors and colors.

A set of five images of the Minhocão, from the Geometrias Variáveis series, 120 × 90 cm, inkjet print on cotton paper, is displayed alongside the book Stills on the Move, appearing as large-scale pages.

The critical essay on piracy, Piratas: Os Dissidentes da Nova Ordem, completes my participation in the exhibition.

At the forum, I join the panel on New Formats, on the 23rd from 8 to 10 p.m., discussing emerging images Beyond the Screen and Beyond the Wall.
