In the second semester of 2015, I am teaching the elective Conceptual and Aesthetic Aspects of Interface Design, a course devoted to critical discussion, from a historical and aesthetic perspective, of a set of emerging concepts, terms and definitions related to interface design. These discussions draw on design projects and artworks analyzed in three thematic sections. The first, Cultural Interface, proposes reflection on the different contexts of reading and interaction that have shaped — and continue to shape — the contemporary imagination: print, audiovisual media and networks. The second section, The Screen, the Body and the City, presents works and projects proposing new configurations for accessing online environments beyond conventional devices such as mobile phones and computers. The third module, From Page Culture to Data Culture, discusses ideological, aesthetic and cognitive transformations related to information architecture and interface design in Web 2.0 environments. The full course syllabus is available here.
