Cybergeographies

13346124_10209492842338842_9206412033980330530_oURnotHere, my collaboration with Fernando Velázquez, is participating in Cibergeografia: Arte, mapas, territorios y las nuevas coordenadas de Iberoamérica en el paradigma digital, curated by Gustavo Romano, at the Centro Cultural de España in Montevideo, Uruguay, from May 31 to August 6.

This exhibition reflects on how, since the emergence of the internet, communications have shaped a new global topology beyond geography. It offers a reflection, both critical and innovative, on subjects such as metaverses and virtual universes, new cartographies, surveillance and control, and the new forms of participation provided by the internet.
A journey through a cybergeographic context centered on Ibero-America, where territories are redrawn, exchanges become more horizontal, and play takes place in a virtual universe with new forms of knowledge and participation.

The exhibition brings together artists from around the world, pioneers of work on the internet, and visual artists. A project produced by Spanish Cooperation through AECID. Many of the works belong to the NETescopio digital production archive, an initiative of the Museo Extremeño e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo (MEIAC: http://netescopio.meiac.es/) in collaboration with the Government of Extremadura, Spain. The exhibition opened in August 2015 at the Centro Cultural de España in Córdoba, Argentina, and then traveled to the CCE in Rosario.
