Opening on the 19th is the exhibition Unplace, arte em rede: lugares entre lugares, a project of Proximo Futuro (Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), Instituto Superior Técnico and the University of Lisbon. In this exhibition, I am presenting a “web-specific” version of #CidadESpelhadas (mirrored cities), developed especially for the event.
According to curators Rita Xavier Monteiro and António Pinto Ribeiro:
“Amid today’s relative deterritorialization, the distinctive feature of the works in this exhibition is that they limit reception exclusively to the visual, auditory and kinesthetic senses, completely excluding the senses of touch and smell recurrent in material and performative works. These works are in permanent traffic, and this is one of the major open questions of this ‘artistic genre.’ They may appear in the flow of other images, data, charts and virtual mail, held back by or penetrating filters, subject to accessibility protocols and encoded; they may be accessible in visual infrastructures or coupled to real ones. This versatility places the works in a permanent state of mutability, and part of their fascination and relevance comes from this.”
