In collaboration with the Arquigrafia project, we experimented with different computer vision models 1 to analyse images from an architectural collection. We extracted data about art and design, creating layers of legibility that were not visible in the collection’s original cataloguing. These resources are available in the prototype shared on our GitHub. They extend our experiments with security camera footage from the Palácio do Planalto on 8 January 2023.
Arquigrafia.org.br is a collaborative online environment that, since 2008, has maintained a free, open public space for building a collection of digital images of buildings and urban spaces in Brazil through the participation of its users, known as the Arquigrafia community.
Computer vision was used to complement information supplied by the public and broaden the ways this collection can be searched. Alongside information about architecture, it identifies elements within the images, such as windows, doors and stairs, design objects such as furniture, artworks such as paintings and sculptures, and new categories such as vegetation.
