The Atlas of Artists’ Trajectories in Museums brings together data from 18 digital collections to visualize, on an interactive map, the places associated with the lives of artists whose works are held in museums and archives. Each trajectory connects biographical and institutional locations: birthplace, place of education, place of death, and the museums and archives that hold the artist’s work.
The Atlas offers a spatial reading of collections, connecting artists, cities, countries, schools and museums. In doing so, the platform reveals movements, concentrations, absences and networks of circulation that do not always appear in traditional catalogue records.
The data should be understood as an approximation, as they depend on the availability, standardization and quality of the information published by digital collections. Learn more about how the project’s data were collected and organized.
