Beleza Convulsiva Tropical is the project I developed specifically for the Bahia Biennial at curator Ana Pato’s invitation. It includes photography, a series of postcards, posters, wheat-pasted posters, and a site-specific intervention in a room of the Bahia archive, with an audiobook and moss graffiti.
Beleza Convulsiva Tropical, inspired by the surrealism of Andre Breton and working through multiple languages, discusses the tropics’ “conspiracy” against memory, the tension between nature and culture, and the informal and the formal. It seeks a non-Romantic approach to ruins, understanding them as matter in motion and the history of time in action.
Here I begin a series of posts about the project, with the first images of the installation of the site-specific work, the moss graffiti at the Bahia State Archive.
