Today I am giving a presentation at The Creators Project. I was supposed to give an overview of digital art.
I am increasingly convinced that this term has expired. As have Art & Technology, new media and a whole constellation of terms that have lost their meaning with the irreversible digitization of culture.
So I will start from a theme proposed by Ivana Bentes (contemporary art after digital media) for a talk we gave together earlier this year at Oi Futuro in Rio.
Since then, we have given a series of other talks together and have continued developing this discussion.
Today’s presentation is partly the outcome of these encounters and partly a remix of a curatorial project I am preparing for next year with the Instituto Sergio Motta.
The main focus is on works that engage with the contemporary world because they function as devices and thus put established situations and configurations under tension and devise new strategies for action.
These works build a field of questioning that could be organized around several lines of force:
- Planetary Consciousness
- New Audiovisual Formats
- Emerging Relations of Authorship
- Coding Strategies
- Ready Media
- Nomadic Spatialities
- Regimes of Interaction
- Politics of the Virtualized Body
I have selected a few projects that seem to correspond to these directions. I will certainly have to add to the slideshow below. More certainly still, I will not be able to cover everything contained in this PowerPoint.
But some ideas and a map of intentions remain on record for future reflection.
